UEM Jaipur Launches IEEE Computer Society with National-Level AI Weather Workshop

Jaipur (Hamara Watan) The University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur, proudly inaugurated its IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter on 17th July 2025. To mark this significant event, a one-day national-level workshop on “AI-Powered Weather Prediction” was organized in collaboration with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

The workshop featured Dr. Somnath Mahato, Eminent Scientist at IMD Pune, who delivered a dynamic session combining theoretical insights with hands-on training. Students from B.Tech and BCA programs actively participated and gained exposure to the latest AI techniques used in weather forecasting.

Prof. Banani Chakrabarti, Chancellor of UEM Jaipur, encouraged students to innovate with responsibility and vision. Prof. (Dr.) Biswajoy Chatterjee, Vice Chancellor, highlighted the synergy between AI and environmental sciences. Prof. (Dr.) Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director of IEM-UEM Group and Pro Vice Chancellor, emphasized the value of IEEE membership in shaping global tech leaders. Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kr. Sharma, Registrar, appreciated the student-driven initiative in launching the chapter.

Senior IEEE member and noted researcher Prof. (Dr.) Angshuman Khan shared insights on how IEEE fosters a strong ecosystem for innovation and research. The program was successfully led by Prof. Debajyoti Chatterjee, Faculty Advisor, IEEE Computer Society UEM Jaipur, and Prof. Surajit Sur, IEEE Student Branch Counsellor.This launch marks a strategic step towards integrating global research practices with academic learning at UEM Jaipur.
